Mrs. Genzlinger

Mrs. Hope Genzlinger, aka "Mrs. G," has been at Zion Lutheran Preschool since graduating from Concordia University, Seward, NE in 1999. She teaches the 3 yr. old and morning 4 yr. old preschool classes. It makes her heart happy to be able to share Jesus with Zion's youngest students.  Mrs. Genzlinger is also in charge of the school's daycare programs and feels very blessed to have such wonderful, Christian friends to work with every day.  She is blessed by her family: husband, Devin, 2 sons, ages 18 & 10, and an 8 yr. daughter.  Mrs. Genzlinger is a voracious reader, likes to cook and take walks around the neighborhood, and tries really hard to keep her flower garden alive.

Mrs. Schaeffer

Mrs. Jennifer Schaeffer has been at Zion Lutheran Preschool since 2014. She has over 16 years of experience working with preschool children. She teaches the 4 yr. old morning & 4/5 yr. old afternoon preschool classes. She is excited to teach morning and afternoon classes this year. Mrs. Schaeffer,  her husband Jeremy, and their four children Kiley(19), Jora (9), Maelee (8), and Easton (2) are members of Zion. She enjoys camping, hiking, and spending time with her family.

Mrs. Graumann

Mrs. Natalie Graumann came to teach at Zion in 2009. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with a concentration in Early Childhood from Concordia University in SewardNebraska. She completed her South Dakota Teaching Certification in January 2011. She taught Kindergarten here at Zion for 5 years, 1 year of Preschool, and now back to Kindergarten again. She and her husband, Dan, are members of Zion. Natalie enjoys reading, taking walks, watching movies, and spending time with family. Mrs. Graumann has two beautiful daughers: Brynley (4yrs) and Maycie (1yr).

Mrs. Lyons

Mrs. Carly Lyons is very excited to join the Zion Lutheran School family this year and share God’s word with her students.  She received her Bachelor of Science and Education in 2009, her Early Childhood Endorsement in 2011, and Director’s Credential in 2012.  Prior to moving to Rapid City, Mrs. Lyons was a teacher and principal at Grace Lutheran School in Key West, Florida.  Mrs. Lyons enjoys spending time with her husband Brent and three children: Gavin (8 yrs), Sawyer (4yrs) and Isla (2 yrs).  Mrs. Lyons other interests include fishing, camping, painting, photography, and volunteering.

Mrs. Frerking

Mrs. Frerking is our First Grade teacher.  She was born and raised here in Rapid. She went to grade school K-8 and was confirmed here at Zion.  She got her Lutheran Teaching certificate at Concordia University in Seward, NE where she met her husband, Scott.  She then accepted a call to Immanuel Lutheran School in Waterloo, IA. She taught there for 7 years in First Grade. In 2008, she accepted the call to Zion to be the First Grade teacher. She has a fifth grader named Benjamin.  She has a dog and a cat. She loves to teach!  In her free time she enjoys playing with her son and her dogs, reading, driving through the Hills as well as spending time with her family.
  Mrs. Geidel
Mrs. Geidel is our First Grade teacher aide.  She is returning to Zion as an aide after teaching here for _____years.

Mr. Dobbs is the second grade teacher at Zion. This is his second year teaching at Zion. Before Zion he taught in Arizona for two years. He is glad to be back in Rapid City where he grew up. He is excited to get another year of teaching underway at Zion.

Mrs. Vogel is the third grade teacher at Zion. She enjoys sharing God's Word with the children and considers it a great blessing to be a part of Zion Lutheran Church and School!   Mrs. Vogel has been married to her loving husband, Scott, for 19 years.  They have two wonderful sons, Bryce and Colton. Mrs. Vogel enjoys spending time with family and friends.  She also enjoys camping and being in the outdoors, collecting teddy bears, and enjoys many kinds of music.

This is Ms. Birkmire's third year at Zion. She teaches fourth grade. She received her B.A. in Elementary Education with endorsements in language arts, science, and social studies from Concordia University Chicago after student-teaching in the fifth grade at Hong Kong International School. She enjoys Ultimate Frisbee, reading, listening and playing music, and spending time with friends and family.

Mrs. Leivestad

Mrs. Leivestad is thrilled to be back at Zion as the half –time 5th grade teacher.  After teaching here previously and subbing in more recent years she is ready to serve in a more permanent capacity again!  Mrs. Leivestad and her husband Derek have two active sons ages 13 & 9 that love soccer.  Mrs. Leivestad also enjoys teaching ballet, decorating cakes, reading, hiking and spending time with friends and family. 

This will be Mrs. Solinsky's eighteenth year at Zion, and her third year as Zion's principal.   She feels so blessed to be a part of a staff and school where God is always the center of everything.   Mrs. Solinsky loves to spend time with her husband, Dean, her 13 yr. old son, Drew, 10 yr. old daughter, Shay and 6 yr. old son,Dane.  Her hobbies include camping, riding horses, reading, and cooking.
Mrs. Long 
Mrs. Long is the afternoon 5th grade teacher and our Music Teacher for Preschool-5th Grade. Mrs. Long went to Minnesota State University Mankato in Mankato, Minnesota and Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska. She has her degree in Elementary Education with a Lutheran Teachers Diploma.  She has been teaching for over 20 years.   She loves children and watching their eyes light up when they understand a concept or learn a new song.  I am blessed with a wonderful husband, Rich, a son, Jonathon, and his family, Haylee, Ramsee, and Ross.  God is good!!! 
Mrs. Drolc serves as our Physical Education teacher and the afternoon Preschool Enrichment Aide. Mrs. Drolc received her Bachelor's degree from Dickinson State University in North Dakota where she grew up. She has been a substitute teacher for the Rapid City School District along with a Paraprofessional for individuals with Special Needs. She knew being around children is what she wanted to do after being blessed with their son David. She is excited to bring her love and enthusiasm to Zion Lutheran School so that her students will enjoy learning about health and fitness. She and her husband Dennis are kept busy with everyday living and with their son David, age 9. 

Nora VandenBos

Ms. Nora has been our School Secretary for 10 years and was our lunch lady for 6 years before that.  She likes to spend time with her husband, Jerry, and children, Kelly, who is 20, and Levi, 16.  She enjoys computers, reading, travel and loves to hold babies.  Ms. Nora likes watching her son Levi play basketball, run track and cross country.  She attends Hope Christian Reformed Church where she is very active.  Nora really enjoys all of the students here at Zion and feels very blessed to work in a Christian school.

Mrs. Burke
Mrs. Burke is our Elementary Language Arts/Spanish Teacher. She comes in once a week to teach the Kindergarten through fifth grade Spanish.
Mrs. Aker
Mrs. Aker is the General Educator at Zion.  She assists students by giving them extra one on one time with a teacher. Mrs. Aker is a former Zion student. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Minnesota State University Moorhead in 2005 and her Master’s Degree in Reading Leadership from University of Sioux Falls in 2009. She has five years of experience teaching 1st and 3rd grades and has spent the last ten years tutoring. She looks forward to helping the students at Zion discover all the wonderful gifts God has given them!
She and her husband Kevin have two boys, Brody & Eli.  They enjoy spending time in the Hills, camping, cooking and playing softball.

Mr. Mitchell      


Mr. Mitchell is our custodian. He grew up right here in Rapid City attending and graduating from Stevens High School. He attended Summit Christian College through a satellite program with First Christian Church. After a year of college he felt called to missions and joined the nonprofit missions organization called Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in September 2010. He met his wife, Makenzie, while in the mission field and they traveled to various places around the world sharing the Gospel and even lived in Cape Town South Africa for a time. They moved to California in 2014 to start a family and become established back here in the states. Most recently they moved back to Rapid City with their two children (Maxine, 3, and Jude, 1) to be closer to family and provide better opportunity for their children.
